This painting was, at first, thought to be lost or, horrors, stolen. However, at long last is was found rolled up in a shipping tube in top of a closet.
In the meantime, and thinking it was gone forever, I bought a similar portrait from Dan, Female #2, as the intent was to study the painting(s), the eyes in particular, as a learning tool for future portraits to be painted by Johnnie.
Daniel Gerhartz was born in 1965 in Wisconsin where he now lives with his wife Jennifer and their children. His interest in art piqued at an early age when a teenage friend suggested they spend one dreary afternoon drawing. It was at that moment that he discovered his lifework. Daniel’s commanding paintings, credentials, and impressive accomplishments transcend the artist’s young age.
For quite a few years he has been featured in solo and group shows across the country and has won several awards at prominent national invitational exhibitions including the Nona Jean Hulsey “Buyers Choice Award” at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame’s Prix de West Invitational Exhibitions. At the 2001 Prix de West Show, Daniel won the Frederic Remington Award which is given to a painter for exceptional artistic merit. He has participated in this prestigious art exhibition for over 11 years, during which he has won quite a few awards.
